Turnt Up for 10 Years of SOC!

Hi there!  Hope you're enjoying the Scraps of Color Blog Hop celebrating 10 years!

If you're following the hop, then you arrived here from Cheryl's awesome blog and I know you had to enjoy her post!  If you you missed Cheryl's blog for some reason (gasp!) you can visit it here: http://www.onecraftyncpeach.blogspot.com/

I'm so excited to be celebrating 10 years of the amazing community that is Scraps of Color!  I was fortunate enough to find the group and join in 2010; I have enjoyed every moment of being a part of the group.  I was welcomed warmly by so many of the members and was able to jump right in.  I have participated in some great challenges (even though I was too scared to post my projects at first! LOL), fun discussion groups, and some excellent swaps.  I consider it a blessing to share and be inspired by such a talented group of crafters!

I encourage everyone to join in on the fun! Consider joining the community!
Visit www.scrapsofcolor.ning.com.

My first project for the swap is a funky card featuring our theme phrase TURNT UP!

This is an A2 card with an embossed background courtesy of the Tim Holtz "Rays" embossing folder.  To add a bit of interest, I lightly rubbed my white VersaMagic Dew Drop ink pad over the impression.  I cut the sentiment using my Silhouette Cameo (love that machine!) and popped it up using dimensional foam squares.  I think it turned out on the vibrant/edgy side---and I like it! LOL

Okay, thanks for stopping by!  Your next stop will be to Kimberly B's super cute blog:  http://mypolkadottedbliss.blogspot.com/!  I know your going to love it!  Enjoy the rest of the hop!

And Happy 10 years SOC!!!  #TurnDownForWhat

::NEW PROJECT:: A Baby Book!

Okay so here's my disclaimer: I am *not* a scrapbooker!!  In any way, shape, or form!!
But with that being said, I wanted to share the little baby book I made for a friend!

A Sweet Little Baby Shower!

Wow- I can't believe October is just around the corner!  The arrival of fall will bring a new arrival for one of my co-workers- a little baby girl!  So you know what that meant: a Baby Shower!!

Two Cute and Simple Cards!

A couple of months ago, I was asked to create some thank you cards.  Since I've really been feeling my mojo lately (LOL) I figured I'd better harness some of this energy and come up with a design or two!

Administrative Professional's Day

Wednesday was Administrative Professional's day!  My office happens to have an absolutely fabulous admin professional --Regina!--so we took this opportunity to really celebrate her and her contributions!  After organizing a nice breakfast, I knew that I wanted to make her a card so she would know how much we appreciate her.

Anniversary By The Sea!

As the month of May approaches, so does the 2nd wedding anniversary of my other BFF!  Two years ago, she and her husband had a beautiful sunrise ceremony on the beach.  Time certainly has flown but I still remember that day with so much fondness and a huge smile- and their lovely wedding inspired this card!

A piece of patterned paper by Recollections was the starting point for this beachy 5X7 card.  Some sky blue cardstock and a little bit of inking around some edges got me half-way to the finish line.  Then I found a package of marriage-themed rub-ons that I've had for years-- but the sentiment was just what a I needed.

The final element that tied everything together for me were some brads in the shape of starfish!  What could be more perfect for an easy, breezy, beachy card?!  I also placed one of the brads on the inside of the card to finish it off.

I hope my BFF and her DH enjoy this card and feel all of the love I've poured into it!  Thanks for stopping by and I'll see you after my next Creative Daze!

A Covered Notebook ::Inspired::

After sharing a picture of the anniversary card I posted yesterday, one of my friends asked me if it was a card or a notebook.  Her question sparked an idea and -subsequently- a Creative Daze!

Using an 80-page journal from Michael's as the base, I pulled out another sheet of the Recollections Black and Tan Damask to cover it.  Some black card stock was used for the binding.

For the ribbon closure, I used a tag from the Gyspy Wanderings Cricut cartridge cut at 1.25" (Kraft paper) and 1" (damask) and then layered them.  I inked the edges of the book with Marcella black dye ink made by K & Company; I love the fact that the ink dries so quickly and doesn't smudge!

For an impromptu project- I think it came out beautifully- and I think I'm keeping it for myself!! LOL  Thanks for stopping by and I'll see you guys next time!

Happy Second Anniversary!

Time is flying by and sometimes I feel like I can barely keep up! LOL  It's been two years since *both* of my BFFs got married (one in April, the other in May) and it's time to celebrate their anniversaries!

A Birthday Wish for My Mom

Happy Friday!! It's been a busy couple of weeks and I'm so excited for the weekend…sleeping in, relaxing, and of course- some crafting!!

I wanted to stop in and share a birthday card I created for my mother. I made it back in January, but I had to wait until I gave it to her to post it. I love to create cards using simple shapes and patterned paper so I pulled out the Safari Chic stack by DCWV and got to work! I think it turned out nicely and my mom really liked it!

Thanks for stopping by and I'll see you after my next Creative Daze!!

Butterflies, Rainbows, and Clouds!

It's February and *crafty goodness* is in the air!  Valentine's Day is my favorite holiday because I absolutely love the bright and airy designs that you see on Valentine's Day cards- especially on cards for kids.  I really wanted to whip up a fun design or two this year, so I persuaded one of my co-workers to allow me to create cards for two of his daughters to give to their classmates.  And let me tell you, that I had a *blast* creating these cards!

First up is Friendly Butterflies!

A New Twist on an Old Fav!

I volunteered to create some baby shower invitations for my friend- because I'm *always* down for a crafty project!  I was so excited when she told me the color scheme was leopard print and corral with accents of gold! How much fun is that?!  As I was planning the design, I came across an old favorite: the New Arrival Cricut cartridge!

Super Hero Birthday Party!

Wow!  The last year has been absolutely *NUTS*!! New job, new city, and new demands!!  I didn't have the opportunity to do as much crafting as I usually do, and unfortunately blogging was off the table as well.  But 2013 is a new year and I'm ready to get back in the swing of things!!

First post of the year:  A Super Hero Party!  I created invites and decor for a co-worker's son and I had such a great time with this one!!

I created the invitation in Cricut Craft Room using the Super Dad father's day card.  I modified the design and created the 'M' logo (mimicking the infamous 'S') to carry throughout the designs.

The decor consisted of bright primary colors, the classic 'boom' 'pow' & 'crash'  signs, and lots of city buildings!

Each child who attended the party received a "Super Hero Transformation Pack" that held a cape so they could turn into their super hero alter ego!  I created the packs using the gable box from Tags, Bags, Boxes, and More 2.

The party bags I created also sported the birthday boy's super logo!  The smaller bags were for the classroom party and the larger bags were given at the end of the actual birthday party.

Last but *certainly* not least - the cake at the birthday party was Ah-Mazing!!  The talented Nikki with www.sweetladiesbakery.com created this awesome confection and  I wanted to make sure that it was featured in the post!  Isn't it fantastic?!?

::SOC BLOG HOP::Celebrate Sistahood Day 3

*--> Da Shawnna: http://creativedaze.dashawnna.com <--*

All Together Now...!

So yesterday (Saturday) was a *super* busy day for me!  I knew that I wasn't going to really have time to post my project for the blog hop, so I created the post and scheduled it post at midnight....or so I thought... Imagine my utter surprise when I get up this morning and find that my 'scheduled post' never posted-- and I have no idea what I did wrong!! ...smh...  LOL But things happen, right?

So what I'm going to do is share both of my projects with you today, on the last day of the hop!

One of my sistas has been having a cRaZy couple of months- a lot has been happening.  So I wanted to create a card that had a bit of a wacky feel to it and then write her an encouraging message inside.  I used a really funky foiled chipboard set made by Soft Spoken  for the arrow and the phrase.  My iRock, some glittered cardstock, and a random punch out I had in my stash helped complete the card.  This card was certainly a departure from what I usually create, but I thought it was quirky cute!  LOL

 The second project that I want to share is a Friendship Journal that I created to start recording some of the wonderful memories my sistas and I have made over the years.  We always have such a good time when we're together and come up with so many off the wall phrases and stories that I wanted to start writing them down.  So I altered a notebook using designer paper with the meaning of friendship printed on it.

Reading the phrases printed on the paper made me think of my two BFF's so I figured it was a great choice.  To cover the binding I used cardstock from the DVWC Old World Stack.  I'm looking forward to this journal being an awesome walk down memory lane every time I pick it up!

Remember  I have a $20.00 gift card to Michael's up for grabs!
To win, all you have to do to win is become a follower (if you aren't already) and leave a comment!  I'll pick and post the winner on Monday (TOMORROW!!!!) - so make sure you leave an e-mail address so I can contact you if you're the winner!

Alright,  time for you to hop on over to
LaShawnda's Blog

Have a great day everybody and thanks for joining in on the Hop!!
It's been fun!!  Technical glitches and all!! LOL

::SOC BLOG HOP:: Celebrate Sistahood

*--> Da Shawnna: http://creativedaze.dashawnna.com <--*

I am so excited about being a part of the Scraps of Color Celebrate Sistahood Blog Hop!  If you are following along the hop, then you just came from Patricia's wonderful blog!

This is going to be a fantastic three days, and I can't wait share my projects with you.  For my first post of the weekend, I thought that I would share a little bit about the sista-bond that inspired me to join and create for this hop in the first place.

Always Sisters, Always Friends

These are my two very best friends in the entire world- my sistas!  Biologically, I am an only child, but I have been extremely blessed to have had some wonderful friends in my life.  Growing up, I had plenty of friends who I was happy to claim as my family, but it wasn't until I met Brandi (in the middle) and Lornetta (on the left) that I truly understood the concept of God-given friends.

The three of us met in college and within months of meeting, we quickly became inseparable friends.  We supported each other through boring classes, tough finals, and homesickness.  Even after Brandi transferred to  another college, we remained tight.  Eleven years have passed since that first year we met, and in that time we have shared joys, sorrows, initial sermons, weddings, and even funerals.  Through it all we have remained closer than ever.  So my participation in this hop is dedicated to my sistas- the ones I thank God for every single day!

Okay, so now that all of that mushy stuff (lol) is out of the way- who's ready for some
Blog Candy!!!

In honor of sistahood- I have a $20.00 gift card to Michael's up for grabs!
All you have to do to win is become a follower (if you aren't already) and leave a comment!  Come back each day and leave a comment on the other projects I'll share
and you'll be entered up to 3 times!  I'll pick and post the winner on Monday- so make sure you leave an e-mail address so I can contact you if you're the winner!

Alright, thanks for stopping in-now it's time for you to hop on over to
LaShawnda's Blog!  I know you'll enjoy!!

Have a great day everybody!!

A Wild & Cute Baby Shower!

I've been working temporarily in Virginia for the last few weeks and one of my new co-workers is having a baby.  The rest of the staff wanted to throw a small shower for he and his wife so you know I couldn't resist making a few decorations!!

I used the Create-A-Critter cartridge to cut out the cute little animals and DonJuan for font on the front of the box.  I used a silk flower block inside of the box and then attached lollipop sticks to the back each character to hold them in place.  I shredded a few sheets of green paper (different shades) to make the 'grass' and was all done!  I think they came out pretty cute for a last minute project!

"Paws"-ing to Say Thank You

This is a card I made for a neighbor to say thanks for being so kind.  She is always extra nice to me when we happen to meet outside and I just wanted to say thanks!  I apprecirate great neighors!

I've had the DCWV Pets Stack *forever* and have never had an occasion to use it until now.  So I created this A2 card using Kraft paper, and three different pieces of the Pets stack layered together.  It was super simple, but she certainly appreciated it...and I appreciate that! LOL

Get Well Soon!!

Yesterday, I found out that one of my co-workers was not feeling well and was in the hospital.  Her supervisor asked me to make a card for her so the office could send their well wishes.  Of course I agreed!

I am right in the midst of several projects, so I knew that the card was going to have to be quick, but I didn't want to skimp on the quality.  But, thank God, every element of the card came together so quickly- right down the tea-themed stickers that I've had for 3 years! (my co-worker LOVES tea!) I've never been able to figure out how to use these stickers before- but last night they practically jumped on the card! LOL!

Hopefully this card will lift her spirits and let her know we care!
